Biomorphic Form Spring 2020
This project was unlike anything I have ever done before. Some things that I like about this is it's general form. I enjoyed making the curves and spirals on it.My favorite is probably the ends of the piece. I added toothpicks and it help draw the attention of the viewer from the side back to either points. Adding the other texture was interesting, but not I'm not of big fan of it.

This is really cool and fun- it kind of reminds me of a candy wrapper. The toothpicks at the end are really interesting and do help with keeping the viewer interested. If it weren't for those, I don't think it would be super successful in that aspect. I love the colors!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lot of fun to look at and observe – I agree with Jaden that it resembles a piece of candy. Your vibrant color palette complements the form perfectly, and I enjoy how the application of paint leads the eye throughout the intricate curves and spirals. You did a wonderful job of cultivating a sense of tight, twisting movement. I think you were very successful in this assignment!
ReplyDeleteLeandra, this is so cool! I love the spiky parts at the end of the sculpture. The colors make me think of a circus, but in a good way! I also love how it looks like the form is in a constant twist. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI know we were both concerned about how our work would turn out, but yours looks great! The colors are so fun! They almost act as the texture itself!
ReplyDeleteLeandra, i love your color pallet and the texture you decided to put with it, it gave the sculpture a more spinning gesture. this sculpture has a lot of movement and is very successful! wonderful job!!!
ReplyDeleteYour texture is amazing. The piece has unity between both ends of the sculpture. The Shards sticking out on both ends gives it balance. The painted strokes around the piece that are twisting around the piece shows rhythm and movement.
ReplyDeleteHey Leandrea, yeah, color! This thing pops! The use of contrasting color strokes to follow the swirling of the 2 lobes really amplifies the movement of the object. The toothpicks are visually interesting- the thin, spiny linear quality of them contrasts strongly with the rest of the form. Maybe consider pushing that- so some toothpicks, some longer barbecue skewers, maybe some toothpicks broken into smaller and smaller pieces transitioning into the swirls. The other texture is somewhat hard to follow- maybe the vivid color throughout flattens that surface under so much additional information- but the recessed areas could have been more distinctly smoothed out to create more contrast between the surfaces- further accentuate the overall movement of the form.
